Default computer help needed!!

hope someone might be able to help me here.

i've got a 40 gig i use as my primary hd and an 80 gig as a secondary which has only mp3's on it. problem is, the 80 is horribly fragmented and no matter what i do i can't clean it up . i've tried the window's defrager and diskeeper defragger with similar results. (no luck) anyone have any input as to how i can fix this? any ideas greatly appreciated...

assuming you don't have 40 gigs of mp3s, I'd just copy them all to the 40gb hdd do a slow format on the 80gb hdd, then copy them back. I'm not sure why fragmentation bothers you if you're only using it for mp3s...

actually, i do have more than 40 gig's of mp3's. it's more of a question on WHY it's not able to defrag than anything else so...somethings just not right.

I second this question... why worry about it? You will not really notice a increase in speed. If speed is what you are after, add more memory.. Windows is a memory hog, and if you think your HD is fraged, you should see your memory after Windows runs for a few days! Also, if you did manage to get it completely defraged, as soon as you add more mp3's, you will be back to where you were...

Have you checked event viewer for any error messages? Does the disk defrager stop responding? Does it display any error messages? You may want to back up all those mp3's to cd. I have seen lots of people loose tons of data and music to viruses and drive crashes. Not saying your drive is about to crash or anything like that just a preventative measure.
