Here's something you might want to try:

This is a deworming agent and a prescription so you will probably need a vet's cooperation, which is not difficult. I purchased mine online and it is very inexpensive. I got a 4 GM pack for a couple US dollars. Treatment is 1-2 mg per gal. As far as safety, I am not 100% certain at the present. If you run an independent system I would use that first. As far as my biofiltration, my cycle remained active and none of my seahorses had any difficulty returning to the tank 4 days later. I did not run any extra filtration. This also killed off green algae that was in my tank and also a couple of polyps that I test treated with. What I did with this large amount was just pull a little amount out with a toothpick, point being I was unable to determine exact dosage I used, but it did not appear to matter and results were very pleasing. I did remove seahorses for 4 days, but I did not run carbon and they did not suffer any problems. Hope this is helpful. ------------------------------- Hope this helps. It's basically used for heart deworming for horses, but, it works wonders for hydroids. I came across it when doing some research for my seahorses. Apparently, 1/16th of a teaspoon per 10 gallons will work as well, so, maybe start with that and then increase to the 1 - 2 mg per gallon as stated in the post. From what I've read, at 1/16th per 10 gallons, it will take out almost all of them, and seriously weaken the "strong" ones. With this low of a dose, most people have not had to remove their inverts, but, don't take that as the rule, but rather the exception. If you are concerned, remove your inverts and try. Also, you can use it to "cleanse" anything that you are going to add to your tank so that you don't inadvertantly add new hydroids to your tank, (currently battling a nasty outbreak in my seahorse tank, so, going to have to get a prescription to get some and see how I make out). Excellent. Glad to hear that everything is working out, (especially with the inverts... That's always one of my fears). Are you going to do only one treatment, or are you going to do 3 treatments , (I've read every other day for a total of 3 treatments)? Keep us posted as well.
