Default painting external overflow

ive notched out a overflow in the back of my tank.is there any way that i can paint the outside of the back panel withou the silicone frome the external box showing through.is there a paint i can use that silicone can adhere too or do i have to live with it?

It might be better to cut an insert of black plexi-glass to just sit in the overflow against the back glass.
