I've never used any soaps on anything in my tanks. Just elbow grease.

soap!?? ZOITS!

stick with vinegar! I'm not too sure how it works on "saltwater" things, but coarse salt (pickling salt) works very well with freshwater stuff.

I throw mine in the washing machine with a little Javex bleach and double rinse. Then I let them air dry for a week before putting them into the sump. I have six bags that I circulate. No ill effects.

I picked one up about 2 weeks ago, and ended up getting one more, mainly so I can switch back and forth when cleaning the other. Its made an amazing difference as before my sump held all the junk that got stuck down there. Now the sock holds it all.

But yes, cleaning is a problem. I try and clean it once every 3 days with a hot rinse of water. I was told by the new guy at OA (sorry don't know his name, and no its not James) that I could throw it in the washing machine with baking soda? Has anyone tried this? (i'm trying it as I type this).

How much baking soda do you use?

I just ran it, and although its much cleaner, its still a little on the stinky side
