You can buy small sections of ABS from Home Depot or Rona for about $6 I think.

Mag pumps, powerheads and many other submersible pump housings are made of ABS.

Really wierd, so why does everyone say not to use ABS and why is it only used for sewers and not water pipes. If it is safe for my tank then i would happily buy the 3 foot section at home depot instead of buying the 12 foot pvc at rona.

Its just a myth really. Since ABS is generally used to carry sewage, some people naturally think that they are not certified to be used with portable water, which isn't true. I've known people who have used ABS tubing in their tanks for years without any incident.

take a look at most of the tank equipment out there. It is ABS. PVC and ABS are both fine but do not use CPVC fittings or pipe as they are treated with chlorine to prevent bio sludge formation and will leach chlorine into your tank.

Instead of white it has a slight tan tint to it.. that is all canadian tire carries so go there and you will see the labels saying cpvc.
