Default Low mg.

Dose low magnesium effect algae growth?

My tank has been running for over a year now. No real algae problems. Though when I switched to sps I learned my no3 and no4 where way too high. I've alleys had bad case of red slime algae.
So I've switched over to the red see program.
Now my nitrates are too low and phosphates are high. And I've been growing thick hair algae.
I've started reducing nopoc dosing.

Peramiters
Salinty 1.026
Phos. 27ppm
Alk 7.9
Calcium 480
Mag. 1360
Temp 78
Ph. 8.3

Just been bring mg. Up from 1160
And alk down from 9.2

What is your NO3 at right now? The biggest thing you are going to need to drive down is the phosphate levels. Chaeto, GFO or FozDown would be a good start. Careful on reducing too quickly so you don't shock your corals. Your NOPO-X will drive down nitrates using little PO4 but will quickly hit zero and phosphates will need to be managed.

Keep us posted on your issues.

I've not found any correlation with low Mg and cyano bacteria growth, though Bryopsis loves low Mg. What type of hair algae is it? Derbesia or Bryopsis? I don't think PO4 is 27 ppm. Maybe 27 ppb which is 0.08 ppm? What are you using to test? What are you doing to lower PO4? Are you adding any bacteria products? What do you have for clean up crew and what size is your tank?

No3 is around 2.
Through out this last week I've brought my nopo-x down from 5mls daily to 2ml
I started gfo 2 days ago. And my no4 has come down from 33 to 27ppm.
On the nopo-x it says do not run any gfo. I have not been able to grow chaeto. But now my red macro algae has started to growth

Yes you are correct. It's27 ppb on my hanna low range. On my red sea no4 pro test kit it reads .04
Nopo-× is a form of carbon dosing.
As to the algae not sure what kind it's thick dark green hairy patches. And o my seems to grow I the more shaded areas. Sides of rocks fund under them.

I have 6 emerald crabs 4 astro snails 1 turbo snail 1 conch snail a stand shifting star fish with a bunch of little kinds of star fish .
1 fox face
1 file fish
2 8 line fairy wrasse
1 yellow fairy
1 tomato clown
1 Darf angle
In a 80g tank

So you're not using GFO or other means to lower PO4? Lots of tanks produce too much PO4 for the carbon dosing to take care of it.

Your clean up crew is pathetic. Start there. For hair algae, I'd add 6-8 Turbo or Trochus Snails and 6-8 Scarlet Hermits.

Once they get to work the PO4 will probably go up because they will be eating and pooping it into the water column. At least your skimmer and the gfo youre ging to add can help at that point. Should solve the problems.
