Default M/H lighting

Are DE the way to go for M/H? I have read that 150w DE are brighter that 175w mogul type. Would a 150w DE be good on a 90 gal tank then as a two lamp setup? Just dreaming about M/H again. I am still worried about heat and the noise of fans. Last question, how do you match ballasts with lamps? I have read too much that it is getting confusing.

thanks for any info.

hey, it's FUN dreaming about MH... Just buy a setup that is matched already, like the pendants you were asking about.

One of the nicest tanks I've seen was a 75 with a 2x150 DE Spacelight hung above the water with an open top. Open tops rule. He had all the SPS he wanted, and barely a heat issue at all. Your 90 is deeper, though - you could go 250 SE if you felt you needed it.

have a spacelight over my 180 and it rules. 3 x 250 w de mh with four powercompact actinics. open top is the way to go mno worries with heat and need not bother with fans. Only drawback if you can even call it that is lots of evaporation so have a r/o system for sure.
