Default Hello from Golden, looking for liverock and sand!

Hey everyone!

I believe i am the only reefer in Golden and the surrounding area. Anyhow i will be heading to kelowna and Vernon this upcoming weekend and hoping to bring back some liverock and reef sand to start the cycle on my tank. Dry rock or live doesn't matter!

If anyone knows a good place or someone i can get some please feel free to share!

Thanks!

In Vernon AJ's Pets & Things downtown do salt & have plenty of rock in stock. There is also a smaller business on Bella Vista road called Seahorse Bay Aquatics, not sure they have rock though. Kelowna has a few more options, Pet City on Spall road, Purple Seahorse on Hwy 33 and several large pet stores on Harvey. Haven't been to any Kelowna shops for some time other than Pet City. From past experience, Pet City seems more focused on salt & the critters are well looked after. The larger stores do everything & much of the salt water stuff doesn't look very good.

Thanks for the responses! Im hoping to purchase liverock from a hobbiest but i will definitely swing by one of those shops for a small bag of sand if they carry any. I'm considering doing a false sand bed just to keep the organic build up to a minimum so likely won't need much.

I don't do Facebook, but I believe there's an Okanagan Reefers community. That might be the best way to find any hobbyists in the area that have sand or rock for you. As you likely know already, you only need a few scoops of sand or a couple of rocks from someone's running system to kick start your own. So called live sand from a store that is sealed in a bag is unlikely to have anything useful in it sitting on a shelf for who knows how long. After that, you really only need dry rock, so the Fiji Crete dry stuff would be a good option.

I'd contribute to your cause with some sand, but I'm away Saturday, not sure about Sunday schedule.

I'm in Vernon all weekend, if you're around Sunday and can sell me some rock and a little sand that would be great! I will try to find that Okanagan refers community, thanks!
