Default Orange spots on previously live rock.

Hello everyone,

can anybody tell me what this is? This was a previously live rock and I have noticed these bright orange spots appeared on it. I am pretty new to saltwater and theres so much more for me to learn. thank you!

THANKS FOR VIEWING!

Another question is, i am setting up a hospital tank. there seem to be an ammonia reading of .25 on it. Whats the best solution for this? water change? and if so, do i need to redose the Cupramine? or those Ammonia fizz tabs are safe to use in Hospital tank? And on my reef tank? whats the best fix for a .25 Ammonia reading?

is RODI a must or RO would be good enough for water?

Thank You!!

-Sia

That is a really nice color of coralline algae you have growing in.
For your hospital tank if you have cupramine in there ( I assume you are treating for something like ick, velvet, etc), then yes, if you remove water you will need to dose the recommended amount for the new water you put in. If you do not the cupramine will be diluted to a lower amount and become less effective. I use prime to lower my ammonia in my hospital tank when needed.

Thank you, trigger man! Is there only one variety of the "Prime" i should look for?

Yes i am treating early signs of ick. I got too excited to stock my tank so i had fatalities. Good thing those that died were not expensive livestock. But still sad. so i am saving the survivors.

By the way, what salinity should i keep my hospital tank on? Im reading that i should lower it, but i took the fishes out of my display tank. So right now my hospital tank has same salinity. Should i lower it like what some articles say?
