are running a power filter in place of a skimmer as they'll provide aeration

I do have a fluval 205 on the tank but I'm not sure how much aeration canister filters provide

Tank is plumbed from the bottom so the return is completely submerged

For power filter was thinking more like the Aquaclear hang on type where the water flows over a lip. A canister would provide some aeration just based on water movement but if me, I'd add the power head.

Do you plan to add any other fish? That's a bit tight quarters for a pair of Maroons unless they are on a broodstock system or something.

I think the combination of a small tank and using a canister filter will have you fighting nitrate. You just really like Maroon Clowns or you want to breed them?
