Default Alternative DI Resin?

I got no feedback from my last post regarding this so I apologize in advance for the repost in a different section.

Can we use water softener resin in a di canister filter. The bead color size and shape are identical. 75 dollars for a cubic foot of water softener resin compared to 30 dollars for 8 oz of di resin. Anyone got any idea?

Water softening resin is not di. Can you put it in there? Sure. Will it take your tds down to 0? No. This is not one of those times aquarium suppliers are jacking the price of some common item, it's a different thing.

Your right. 75 dollars per cubic foot of softener resin. 305 for di. That's still 40 cents per ounce compared to the 3 dollars per ounce most places want.

Thanks for your reply
