goofy sponge growth...

what's with this finger like growth from this sponge...

... most likely from the current that exists in my tank ...

anyone experience this and what is the long term end result ??

One of my clients has exact same sponge. Cool and creepy looking. But his grows straight up.
And it's not a bad thing, leave alone.
