Default Scratches in glass

Seems like lately, no matter how careful i am, my glass is scratching very easy. I am checking for sand in my mag float. It is definitely irritating. Is there something that can be done to eliminate scratches, or am I going to have to get used to it for years to come

i haven't tried this, but Strauss once told me you can get rid of scratches in glass by wiping over it with a mild acid like lemon juice. Obviously, the glass has to be a dried surface.
