My vote is pocillipora as well. You will know for sure if you start finding new colonies of it forming all over your tank

It was a volunteer that just grew out of some live rock so the ID sounds logical.

I've heard that Pocillopora's will do "polyp bailout" and start new colonies. Not a true spawning event but sorta similar results in that suddenly little tiny colonies form out of nowhere. The one I have hasn't done that to me though so I'm not sure if some are more predisposed to it than others.

Yeah I've heard it is polyp bailout as well. I have two types in my tank and only one of them has started colonies elsewhere.

That is cool that yours grew that large from one polyp.
