Yup. Tried a 48" a while ago. Did not broadcast enough to sides. Had to raise the light to almost 24" above water....not enough head room for that, and light not intense enough from there

Intensity
I don't think you'll have a problem with this light
These LEDS shed light well Also you can increase the intensity to increase the penetration
