I remember visiting the island as a kid back in the early '80s we were in Port Alice and 3 locals found several blobs of Ambergris at the time we had no clue what it was and why everyone was so excited by the find all we knew is we had free reign on collecting oysters (this was before you needed a license to pick them)as everyone had abandoned oyster picking to search for the whale barf
