Get some scrap acrylic and a couple of nylon screws and nuts and drill holes in whats left of the old bracing and the acrylic and then attach. 100% safe and easy to do. I've done it myself in the past and you can find tons of examples if you google "replacing center brace with acrylic".

Because my carpentry skills are legendarily horrible I thought it was going to look crappy as well but I was pleasantly surprised tomorrow I give it the water test getting buckets ready for the worst scenario ![]()
