Stupid noob bulkhead question

Flat side of the rubber gasket on the glass and the ridged side facing up toward the bulkhead flange. (not often you get to use the word flange) . I've never had a problem with one leaking. Good question though, I always ask myself that when putting bulkheads in. These little details can be really stressful.
