Mine has the plywood bottom but I had the glass blacked out so you can't see it. You can only see the edge at the bottom which is easy to cover up.

Thanks for all the info and tips!
It's greatly appreciated. I think I read the plywood adds stability? Is it not necessary? Or perhaps I can have it painted white first?
