Is it okay to use just a couple of big rubbermaid rectangular tubs for TTM? Or do I need actual aquarium tanks to do it?

Yup, anything that'll hold water and is easy to disinfect between runs.

Things are getting real
Daniel (target) delivered the stand today. With the help of a dolly, the two of us got it inside the house relatively easily. My worries were unfounded.
The stand looks absolutely amazing, great handiwork and feels extremely sturdy.    The doors have yet to be installed yet due to time constraints but that works out well since tomorrow is the big setup day and I don't need any doors getting in the way at the moment. And here's the "living" room.  (several unpictured tubs for more saltwater ready for tomorrow)
