I've tried quite a few 14K bulbs over the years and have stuck with Phoenix because as you said, they are the bluest of the bunch (that I've tired). Sadly it is true, they are discontinued :-( I stocked up on a few during this past holiday season. Still trying to source some more where I find pockets of stock left

I'm not too pleased about them either. I bought enough Phoenix to last the next two years plus a pair of Geisemann out of curiosity. They are relatively yellow like you say but I'm reluctant to buy even more Phoenix... it has already been an expensive couple of weeks.

I have. I liked them. Not as nice as the Phoenix but still nice. I rate the 14K (duel ended) as such..

1. Phoenix 14K (Good balance between growth and colour).

2. XM 15K (A good alternative to Phoenix).

3. Ushio 14K (much whiter than most which means great growth. Needs to be supplimented with a lot of blue T5s though).

3. Giessman/Hamilton/etc (kinda meh on these ones. They get the job done).

4. eBay 14/15K ( cheap, but don't tend to last long. Either burn out quickly or colour shift noticeably earlier).

No problem! Just keep in mind that these are my opinions. Don't take it as gospel :-). Your (and others) experience(s) and opinions may differ.

Any sources in Canada for Ushio bulbs? Haven't been able to find any, or have they also gone the way of Phoenix?

I haven't seen Ushios for a couple of years now. I only see them online with US retailers. It's possible you can still get them but I haven't seen any (locally in Canada).
