Its not as common as them spreading buy over growing the rocks, but they can definitely dislodge heads and start new colonies. It happened to me on numerous occasions until i just got rid of the entire thing ( and it wasn't easy)

I WISH Xenia would grow in my tank. I have tried 3 times now and they always melt away within a couple of days.
