![]() My Vortech's are the only place in the tank that large accumulations of certain types of algae grow because it's the only place where the herbivores can't get to it. I don't have any fish that like to perch in them, but I do have a whole bunch of turbo snails that seem to have death wishes. I lost an MP40 impeller to a mexican turbo snail that crawled inside the pump housing to graze while I had everything turned off for maintenance that I didn't see when I turned it all back on. The turbo snail was unfazed, but one of the impeller blades was cracked right in half. I thought my glass was cracking it made such a loud noise!
