Default UFO (unidentified fishy object)

I have found a caterpillar like creature growing in amongst my button mushroom polyps, it's black and white and looks exactly like a small caterpillar, it is curled to the size of a quarter and probably about 2 inches if you stretch it.
the polyp it is on seems to be closed but im not certain its because of the ufo.
I seem to remember spotting it a while ago and thinking it a small shell or something, in which case it has grown.

does anybody know whether it is going to become a butterfly or pest.

I have one in my tank. It does not seem to be doing any damage thus far. It is a real slow mover, and always stays around my polyps.
Sorry, I do not have a name for it.
However, UFO does have a certain ring to it
