Default maxima clam placement

Where do you have your maxima clam? On the rockwork, on a shell on the sandbed or just on the sandbed? I thought I had read somewhere that they do not like to be just on the sandbed.
Thanks

I put my Maxima on an old clamshell for him to attach and then placed him in the rockwork. This allows you to either move him or take him out for a cleaning

I have been trying to place mine on the shell today and he too is jumping off. should I place some rock rubble around the clam to keep him from jumping off untill he attaches to the shell?

I have three maximas.
One was placed on the rock and attached immediately.

One wouldn't attach and ended up in behind the rocks continually.

The third one attached and kinda slid down the rock slowly. So 2/3 are on the sandbed now and all are happy as clams.
