The other LED's are expensive for a reason.
A lot of things in this hobby are "You get what you pay for".
In this case you pay more to be able to grow SPS/clams/high light corals.
Of course there will always be people who argue for their cheaper piece of equipment and rave about it, but for the most part it's true.
LED's are starting to prove this wrong, but that Fluval one is NOT one of them.

Yes you can use a home depot fixture. Probably won't look right though.
It comes down to the bulbs you use.
For a 55g reef I would think (I've never used T5 but seen many tanks) you need a 6-8 bulb fixture for SPS/clams. Don't think 4 will cut it. But let someone with experience speak up.
