Default Scuba

Does anyone scuba? Where? how long?

I am getting my certification and want to plan a nice vacation for myself full of dives, not too expensive, and not to advanced for my limited abilities.

Thanks,

Beth

Hello Beth,
Been diving for 20 + yrs. Did my basic in the Crowsnest pass lakes and took my advance up your way in Jasper. Very awsome hobby, also what really kick drove me into doing salt water aquariums.
Try the Riviera Maya just south of Cancun. You can also take a 30 min ferry over to Cozumel. Very, very good diving. A good range of difficulty for any diver. I stayed on the Maya side for the cost and more things to see and Cozumel is still close. Someone is always running specials for trips down there.
cheers, Mike

Like andestang, it was diving that got me going on reef tanks. I used to work on a cruise ship and had the best dives of my life in the Caribbean.

My favorite dives where under the St. Croix pier, it's a bunch of mini reefs each diverse from the other. The funny part is, most have garbage as the reef base and the pilings are littered with anenomies.

Another is Carambola on St. Croix as well. This is a wall dive and you can watch the species change as you descend and you may even see some reef sharks.

And my #1 dive (actually you can snorkel this as it's only about 20' at it's deepest) is Sapphire Beach on St. Thomas. It's a flat reef that goes for quite some distance. you'd be very hard pressed to see everything that inhabits this area. The variety of life is HUGE.

Hopefully one day, I'll be able to dig out my photos of these dives and get them onto the PC. I'd love to show some of them off.

West Coast of Canada is IMO the best diving there is, aside from it's cold. Belize's barrier reef is my bet for the Carribean.

Some of the best diving I have done is in the Turks and Caicos in the Carribean....... Club Med was great there as well.

Also... St. Barts and St Kitts is excellent.

I just got back from Cancun and it was awesome. I didn't go scuba diving but I went snorkeling and it was amazing. The fish were huge and so amazing when out in the wild. I actually visited this one section of a reef where there were huge colonies of hard corals. It was quite the sight! I am currently developing some underwater pictures, hopefully I can scan some and post them here!

Re: West Ed

I have never dove there but I know a fiew people who have done mall dives and they said that it kinda sucked

As far as life goes nothing I have ever seen can touch the life on the west coast (best be getting a dry suit if ya dont want to get too cold)

I just had some friends get back from Camen Brac apparently it is a whole Island dedicated to Diving.

It is a fun (and expensive) hobby

Joel
