From what I've read and seen and been told, there are good worms and then there are bad worms. The ones you describe sound like good ones. All worms serve a purpose of some sort, but some can be harmfull. I should of taken a picture of the two worms I just got rid of. They were of the harmful variety ( so I've read ) ref marine mag form local fish store. I also have a longer red one with very fine bristles and I'm keeping an eye on him but no problems yet. Maybe someone could post a site with different types of worms and hitch hikers etc. Or recommend a book. From what I understand most worms are very beneficial.
