They'll create a new cycle just like any other dead or uncured rock. Just don't add to a tank with livestock in it. My 400 was 1/3 dead rock from a garbage bin in somebodies backyard. Complete with dead leaves, dirt and grass. I cleaned it up and let it cycle without issue.

Cook the rock. Being froze or dry the inhabitants are now dead. Adding to tank will have nutrients released into water.

Myka has a artical about cooking rock in her sig. Check it out great info there
