Question RO/DI Filter for Aquarium and Faucet

Hi there,

I am in the process of getting a 100gal + 50gal sump going and I want to get a RO unit. My sump will be downstairs in the furnace room so I have easy access to the water and can hook up a RO unit. My wife would also like to get a faucet in the bar area (other side of the furnace room so no worries there). What brand/model do people recommend I go with? I want to get a auto top off unit for the sump too so I don't have to worry about all the topping up, especially in the summer.

Im new to saltwater and canreef, and I,ve been looking into a R/O unit as well and found this one Vertex Puratek 100 GPD RO/DI SYSTEM has alot of great reviews. You can find it at www.aquacave.com
Hope this helps.

Make sure you get a pressure storage tank if you're connecting faucets for drinking water. Aquasafe Canada systems are pretty standard, typically lowest price but does everything you would expect/want.

J&L Aquatics also sells this Vertex RO/DI unit, as well as the 200gpd unit
I have a Vertex RO setup and am happy with it. I like the clear canisters for cartridge monitoring

I've seen lots of good feedback about the Aquasafe stuff but have never owned one

I have a Tunze Osmolator 3155 ATO and am happy with it
It's hooked up to a tank I manually fill as RO & RO/DI systems aren't very efficient if they are plumbed direct to the DT and run in short bursts

Thanks for the advice. I had seen the Vertex one on the J&L website but I didn't see a pressure tank and faucet hookup. I guess I will have to call them and see if they can get that in for me. I am planning on buying the heaters, powerheads, wave controller, sand, salt, base rock, live rock, and filter socks from them.

If J&L can't help you, Bulk Reef Supply will have the rest of your drinking water parts

I bought the Vertex RO only unit from J&L and then bought a single DI canister with resin.

Cost me about $150 all together. You would have to get a storage tank but I think you can just get those at Home Depot. You would just have to have a T connector after the RO unit and one tube would go to your storage tank and the other would go to the DI cartridge.
