I believe pleco and loaches eat marine base algae. They probably do a better job than tangs.

bleach may discourage the growth, I will suggest white out liquid. If you don't have any, you can also try to dip it in kalk water.

How do you think it would fair mounted to my hood like an ornament?

double side tape, 2 part epoxy, crazy glue, magnet.. just like how you will mount any coral in the tank.

However, these are big colonies, you may want to pin it down first.

they are DOT approve. make sure they are firmly secure to you hood, and frag them as needed.
