Why not make a media server on your PC then you wouldn't have to put your files in your USB.

If I knew how to do that too I would, just a welder not a techie
 My PC does show up on the PS3 but the files that show up will not play.

goto ps3mediaserver.org. if your file isn't playing, could it be that you havent updated your ps3 yet?

does the usb show up at all? does it show up empty? I had the same problem, but found that you need to press the triangle to "show all" and then I could play .avi and such... might work for you....
