Ammonia

Where you have Ammonia, you will also have Ammonium. The ratio of one to the other varies on pH and water temperature.

When you add an ammonia detoxifier like Amquel or Seachem Prime does this ratio still hold? If so how? Is there some chemical or biological process that re-establishes the ratio.
