I can see it now:

*Doug comes home with a stand-alone profilux doser*

Laurie: "Honey! Lets just get the rest of the profilux system!?"

Lmao... not only did you both reply at the same time exactly... but also said the same thing!

I was trying to choose something 'high profile' that had an even higher cost accompaniment or related product, haha.

I also have a "fish-account" and a little bit from every paycheck goes in there. Then when I want/need something there is no guilt attached.

I am also lucky enough to have a very supportive hubby. Honestly can't remember him ever saying no....and he can (more importantly WILL)build anything.... from even my crappy sketches on a napkin/scrap of paper.

You can pretty much colour me spoiled when it comes to the tanks.

But it goes both ways, he has his own rather expensive hobbies and we feed those as well.

I spend a lot on my addictions (mostly corals and fish), but I used to supplement with frag sales. Then my Felicia was born and all the money from fish-related sales went into her university fund. Then came Isabella and now I have to figure out a way to fund her schooling fund as well. In the meantime, I just work crazy hours and buy when I see something I really want for my tanks at a good price. Irene knows I only buy when its a good (if not great) deal so she's fine with what I spend on the tanks.

It also helped that I recently sold my largest, most expensive tank. I know I will probably overspend on Boxing Day sales but then again, I don't buy LED tvs at Best Buy or do any other BD shopping so I probably spend less than most other guys I know who do their electronics shopping that day.

I also took a year's sabbatical from spending on my tanks after the 220g blew and so the way I see it, I have a year's worth of spending to catch up on

Anthony

There is simply one way I can justify expensive things:

I have to sell something fish related for equal or greater value of what I want to buy. Usually for expensive things this involves buying a cheap tank and stand, reconditioning it to make it look nice, then selling it for profit. So far my 180 gallon tank has not cost me a dollar of my regular earned wages
