Good plan. Just built one myself. WHISPER QUIET!!! Personally I suggest building it without teeth on the overflow (but put teeth if that's your preference). If you want a wavemaking device, make sure you leave at least 1.5" from the rim, more is better. I built mine with 0.65" from the rim.

I can tell ya how to calculate how high the water will be over the overflow weir if you're interested.
