keep an eye on your ammonia and phosphates...
when they're moving up, it's like due to the chemipure being depleted.

When your water starts to look yellow or when you "feel" it needs to be done. The "Feel" is the sixth, maybe seventh, sense developed by reefers over time . Just kidding. I find I replace my every 2 months; some people can go longer, some less. Softie tanks typically need more frequent changes as some species employ allelopathy, SPS need frequent changes because they're princesses and just like to be difficult and cost you lots of money. When the water is yellowing and/or if things look like their pouting, then it probably needs to be replaced along with a water change. Better yet, just get into a routine of replacing it at regular intervals.
