at 10 bucks a handful, id need to spend 200 dollars

i really dont wanna spend 200 dollars on algae

Cheato

It grows very fast. A handfull becomes two...becomes four..etc fairly quick. I got a small handfull a month ago and its probably trippled. Just have a 6500k compact florecent over the fuge. It has sure helped with problem algae. Good luck.
