Should work if you made sure that there was nothing inside that could puncture the bags. That's the most important part.

Where did you get the bags from? I like this idea as well. Thought about doing it myself but could not find a food grade decorative container.

Industrial plastics is where I got the bags... keeps the woman happy as it supplies more than enough water for ato and serves as a nice deco piece rather than some ugly bin.

3mm and double bagged
