I have 2 in my 8'er that have been in there for at least 6 month now. If there life span has anything to do with there size then I would say mine are almost done
 . They are HUGE, the bigger of the 2 is all most 3-4 long and his top fin has a reddish / orange strip. Cool looking fish and I will always have at least one in my tank.
