Default Building a sump/dsb/refugium

I'm looking to build a custom sump/dsb/refugium for my tank and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on materials and layout. The dimensions are 36 x 15 x 15. I'd rather convert an old tank but every 36" tank I find is 18" tall and I don't have enough room to pull out the skimmer for cleaning. Any ideas?

There are 20 gallon longs, which are 36" long but only 12" high.....but if you're going to build your own, look at acrylic.

Also, is there a reason you need to pull the whole skimmer out to clean it?

LIAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL, 23 Long is 36"x12"x12"... a 20 Long is 30"x12"x12" - both are about $35 to $45 dollars at any pet store. not worth building out of acrylic at price in my opinion

+1 - unless you've done something with acrylic before... don't bother. You'll just waste $30 sheets of acrylic.

Just buy either a 20 gallon long or a 30 and silicone some acrylic partitions into it. way easier...

OR just buy one off here! They are all over the place, and most of them are awesome deals.

36x12x12 = 22 gallons

30x12x12 = 19 gallons.

As for glass tank with acrylic baffles... don't do it. Acrylic and glass don't bond well due to lack of adhesive made for both. You either need acrylic adhesive or glass adhesive. Use glass partitions you can get cut at any glass shop.

This is learned earlier in the summer while trying to get ideas for an internal overflow.

I wonder... does anyone care enough to read signatures if you make them really small? I would not. I would probably moan and complain, read three words and swear once or twice. But since you made it this far, please rate my builds.
