I've been kind of wondering if something like that could work for dual overflows because I have the same situation with my cube tank, dual overflows with Dursos. It's silent enough but I like Herbie better and the tank has had chronic microbubbles since day 1 due to the flow through sump. I was thinking about something like this for when I go to move the tank.

So .. um .. thanks for the proof of concept.

What the final plan is, is to raise the height of the backup chamber lip (silicone in some glass strips) rather than having it full of water with little movement.

And have it empty unless it was needed?

that's right, water would only flow into it if there was a problem with the main. Realize bit of waste of space in the display having basically an empty overflow.

If was really ambitious guess could remove the overflow altogether. What would be visible would be the drain standpipe (keep about the same height as now) and the pump return line (would need to support), would gain about 5g. Negative would be if there was a problem with the bulkheads could be wet, but then I'm not worried about the CL returns.

fitting w/tubing for circulation, coupler sits on top of standpipe, small stub as was easy way to adjust total standpipe height when first setting up emergency
