Default Water level for in sump skimmers

How deep of water should I let my skimmer sit in? How deep do others go?

Depends on the skimmer.

I have a Vertex 180 and it sits with 6-8" of water.

I have an old Euroreef RS100 that sits in 8-10" of water..

I have the alpha cone 250. Works the best in 10" of water. I would recommend you get an auto top up if you don't already have one so you dont have to keep adjusting your skimmer.

As others stated, it will depend on the skimmer. But with my old EuroReef and now my Hydor, I find between 7-8 inches the best for me.
