This is why Mysis Shrimp is good, High fatty acid profiles, High Omega 3, Basically like naturally occuring Selcon, and if you dont use or like selcon? then I wouldnt let you care for my fish...
Nothing personal to anyone on the list but almost all reef tanks I see with fish have malnourished fish.

OK, OK...i believe you, this stuff is good for our fish. Me and darren are tryin to get some from you, but when he was in your area, you werent home. touch base with him if you could, and our fish can be happy too!

Do you put selcon right in the tank?? Eew! What a mess that would make. I thought you were supposed to soak the food in a tiny bit of it.

It says on the bottle that you are supposed to soak your food in .5ml of the stuff before feeding.

I swear by the stuff, I know that I have been using it for a few weeks now and my fish are much healthier for it. As far as the science of it all, Fatty acids are a VERY important part of a fish's diet.

One can make sure it finds it's way into their diet other ways though. Like through HUFA Brine shrimp etc....

Christy, yes, you are supposed to soak the food in it. But it still leaches a lot into the water, IMO. I suppose if you feed flake or something, then it might help, But I feed fresh seafood (rinsed) and many types of frozen. Tang gets lettuce, broccoli, banana and nori. Green chromis also love banana!!

If you have an Asian section in your local supermarket like Superstore or T&T etc, buy this chinese cabbage called Napa short. My tangs and Queen Angel love this stuff and they will nibble the white parts all day long when the green stuff is gone. It doesn't break apart as much as romaine lettuce but tender enough for them to eat. I put mine on the kitchen counter top in a bowl with some water and in about 3-4 days, you will notice roots coming out from the bottom. Then it stays fresh for WEEKS as it grows and you continue to remove the outer leaves. I alternate this with nori every other day and my Queen angel is just IMO beautiful. I haven't used any selcon supplement in the past year (since I started my tank) and I haven't had any fish that detiorate from good health and die. In fact my Queen is now about 7" big and it was about 4.5 when I bought it. My 2 cents worth of observations and input.

Selcon is only useful if you are feeding poor food, IMO. Plain frozen brine shrimp (the equivalent of potato chips) or other crappy fare need selcon, especially if there is little or no variety in the diet. BUT if you are feeding a variety including mysis, ocean plankton, HUFA brinies, squid, raw fish, shrimp etc. then you don't need that stuff IMO. Selcon is just useful in an attempt to enrich already poor food or a diet low in variety. Also, if you are selcon-soaking food that is already high in the ingredients found in the solution, very little of may be absorbed, as absorbtion needs a concentration gradient? (Just a possibility) I have kept my fish fat and healthy without it...
But as my friend Achilles would say, using selcon may give your fish that small advantage that makes them more healthy.
