Default black stuff growing on the edge of my monti cap

At first I thought it was just some errant hair algae that got stuck to the edge of the frag. Now, its starting to grow and has turned really black.

The frag looks healthy otherwise, polyps extended and coloured nicely and has shown some growth (growing over the glue and expanding out the edge)... but I am a little worried.

Anyone have any experience with this before? I am hoping someone can figure this out while I go take a pic to post

Is it a small spot? Either way if its growing break the black part off. New growth will happen faster than leaving it. Probably algae growing on a dead spot.

it is actually just on the edge of the cap, the rim or so.

it is moving down the rim tho, so I am a little worried...

pics have been taken, just need to be resized and posted somewhere

If it's a new frag you could be having some die-off from the stress of moving, acclimating, etc. A couple I had turned white on the edge and then grew some algae for a while, then it cleared up. The frag got healthy and grew over the bad patch.

But my experience with Caps is quite limited - seems if they have half a chance they should be OK.
