I would check out sign shops and see if you can get a black plastic film that will just stick to the tank, sort of like those window coatings that just go on with water. That would give you the black background you're after but also allow you to peel off a section of coating and see the back of your tank.

Looking forward to the progress - what are your plans for equipment and stocking?
Stocking plans, are as follows:

The current inhabitants of my tank, consisting of:

Achilles tang
Regal tang
Purple tang
Naso tang
male Bluethroat trigger
6 green chromis
pair of lyretail anthias (male and female)
pair of ocellaris clowns
pair of bangaii cardinals
lawnmower blenny
flame hawk
cleaner wrasse

As far as new stock, I am thinking of possibly adding:

more lyretail anthias
more green chromis
some more tangs(not sure what type yet)
green mandarin dragonet
spotted mandarin dragonet
female Bluethroat trigger
some different wrasses
royal gramma

Equipment will be the following:

Bubble King Deluxe 300 Internal Protein Skimmer
2 48 Inch Giesemann Infiniti Lighting fixtures 2x250W MH + 4x54W T5
GEO 612 Calcium Reactor ( my current reactor, will eventually have to be upgraded at some point)
2 Dart Super Gold pumps for the closed loops
Red Dragon 4.5 m3 and Red Dragon 6.5 m3 for return pumps(already have)
3 Vortech Mp40 for extra flow(already have)
little fishies phosban reactor for carbon
Neptune Apex controller

This list might change as needed.

Thanks, but this won't work. I have already paid extra for the acrylic/vinyl sides and the black piece of acrylic along the back. If I remove these I essentially wasted my money and since I still have a lot more to spend on this project, I don't think I can really afford to do so.

Nice looking livestock. Have you got them eating flakes and pellets?

Awesome tank. Great build.

Your braver than I am with moving a tank that size, but you seem to have managed. Good job!

They all eat flakes and pellets, except for the Bluethroat. I am still working on him.
