Do you have a picture?

If it's the one with an orange rim....... it's a pinnatus (sp)........ don't buy it........ it's very hard to keep.

or if it's this one then it's the teira

No they are very messy eaters and therfore cause problems in water quality.
They grow fast and huge.
They are very difficult to keep so reputable LFS go not import them.
If you did buy one return it to the LFS>

No I didn't buy one and I'm not planning too. I just wanted to know a more common name for them and that's all.

One in the picture is a platax teira or long-finned/tall-finned. Pinnatus gets called log-finned as well though. Other species available is an orbiculate which is usually called a round batfish.
