This setup on the vid will work but it will be loud. You will get a sucking sound from this drain. I would recommend a emergency backup drain also, (you will thank me later). Also don't use the bio balls save them for the mollies.

I didn't drill my tanks but made the more complex overflow tube and then stuck a kleenex in the open upper pipe to stop the noise.
