To the original question. I agree with stability on the big four: Salinity, Ca, Alk, Temp. Good lighting and water changes to supplement trace elements. That was what I was doing when I had my most success. Uncomplicated, but not necessarily easy to do.

Since having a year of setback, I'm now also a believer in massive skimming.
