What if any would i get from low magnuisium in my tank
just got a kit
says 1200ppm

1200 isn't too bad. I doubt you would see any kind of effect from Mg level at 1200.

Even at lower levels, you don't see direct impact from low Mg...but it then becomes difficult to maintain Ca/Alk levels. If you don't maintain Ca/Alk THEN you have problems.

Agreed, 1200 isn't bad, the recommended concentration ranges from 1200-1400ppm depending where you look.

However magnesium is very important as it is essential for Calcium assimilation, so if magnesium levels are too low, the calcium supply is cut off.

The reason your Mg is low is probably due to your salt, selecting the proper salt for your needs isn't as simple as asking what others use and find works best, one has to select a salt that best fits his or her own needs. For example if you supplement you should to select a salt with levels close to what your tank is maintained at. If you don't supplement you should select a salt with higher levels than maintained/desired so it replenishes what was used.
