In the wild the moon does not stay at the same intensity levels all night long. The moon has its own cycle of intensity as well as the variance of cloud cover. I do not think that the use of moon lights will effect the inhabitants of your reef to any extent, however if you have a timer you can set it to control the use of your moon lights to your preferences and have them off for the rest of the night. Go Green do not waste electricity.

There are some great products like ProfiLux that will control your lights including moon lights with the cycles of the moon and the randomness of cloud cover.
